Netflix reveals first trailer for Senna miniseries

The series will be released later this year and stars Gabriel Leone as Ayrton Senna.

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Senna, an upcoming series about the life and career of legendary Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna.

Starring Gabriel Leone as Senna, the trailer shows the three-time world champion as he secures an historic victory in his home Grand Prix at Interlagos in 1991. It was Senna’s first win in Sao Paulo and a challenging race in which he was mostly stuck in sixth gear. Close up shots of him driving are interspersed with thoughts experiences and people from his past including ex-partner Xuxa, long time rival Alain Prost and McLaren team principal, Ron Dennis.

The six episode series will focus on life on the track and away from it with a deep look into his personality and personal relationships. It begins from his start in motor racing in the UK competing in Formula Ford up to his tragic death during the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola.

Senna is still looked upon as one of the great F1 drivers of all time. He won three world titles (1988, 1990 and 1991), and secured 41 victories, 65 pole positions and 80 podiums in his F1 career from 1984 to 1994. His quick performances in qualifying and on wet tracks were among the many aspects of his talent he was renowned for and, to this day, still holds the record for most wins in Monaco (6).
